5 Healthy Foods to Eat Daily

We all struggle to find a healthy balance in our lives, whether that be with nutrition, exercise, work, or family life. In order to keep my nutrition as healthy (and delicious) as possible, I have figured out a few healthy items that I truly enjoy eating on a daily basis. The items I have found are great snacks on their own or are easily incorporated into various other recipes. The health benefits of the following foods are huge, so I hope you will try them all and figure out your own favorite way to consume them! To make things as easy as possible for all of you, I have included links to purchase these foods online as well!

olive oilOlive Oil: If you are looking for improved metabolism, aging prevention, and protection against certain cancers/diseases, then you definitely should look into incorporating olive oil into your diet. Personally, I substitute olive oil instead of butter when sautéing vegetables, I add olive oil to my meats when cooking, and put it in my smoothies as well. Due to the mild flavor, you can add olive oil to nearly any meal without drastically changing the flavor. So, next time, instead of deep frying your chicken in vegetable oil, try adding a few tablespoons of olive oil to a pan over medium heat and cook your seasoned chicken that way for a delicious, guilt-free option!

Almonds: Almonds are good for brain health, heart health, and can even help with weight loss due to their ability to reduce hunger. If improved memory, weight control, and reduced risk of heart disease don’t make you want to incorporate almonds into your diet, then maybe the fact that they can help improve skin and increase hair growth might make you want to try them! Almonds make an awesome snack just on their own, and they can be incorporated into salads, smoothies, or desserts. I keep a bag of almonds in my purse to try and remind myself to eat at least a handful per day!

Greek Yogurt: Instead of consuming the sugar-filled variety of yogurt, I opt for the protein-packed, probiotic-filled, plain Greek yogurt. If I want to consume Greek yogurt on its own, I usually add a bit of honey, fruit, or nuts to add a some extra flavor and nutrients. The most common ways I use Greek yogurt include: in smoothies, as a substitute for sour cream in any recipe, or as a dip for fruits and veggies. The health benefits of this item include boosted immunity to illness, muscle building, and improved mood due to better gut health. To be completely honest, it took some time for me to learn how to enjoy this incredibly healthy item. However, now that I have figured out the best ways to use it, I can’t get enough!

Hummus: Hummus is packed with nutrients that help decrease inflammation, lower cholesterol, and promote digestive health. Hummus is a wonderful source of protein, and is completely plant-based with very few ingredients. My favorite ways to enjoy this snack are to use it as a dip for pita chips and veggies, or to add it to a wrap as a substitute for mayonnaise. If plain hummus is not your thing, I urge you to try the Smoked Chipotle or Fresh Lemon Dill flavors by the brand Ithaca Cold-Crafted. Not many places carry this small brand yet, but if you can find it, purchase it! Before I tried this kind, I could not get completely on board the hummus train; however, I could honestly probably eat an entire container of hummus in just one sitting now!

Blueberries: Decreased effects of aging, preserved vision, regulated blood sugar levels, and clearer skin are all positive things that can happen to your body with the consumption of blueberries. Since I was a young child, blueberries have always been my favorite fruit. I love eating them fresh, adding frozen blueberries to smoothies, making pies or muffins with them, and adding them to yogurt or granola. Pretty much any way you can eat a blueberry, I’ll try it! Some studies have also shown an anti-depressant capability of blueberries, so that gives even more of a reason to have them on a daily basis!

Hopefully you all found some helpful information here! If you aren’t already eating these items, my goal is to get you all to step out of your comfort zone and try each of these amazing foods! Don’t forget, the links to purchase several of these items are listed below!
