My Favorite Products of 2018

Because the beauty industry is becoming such an influential area, the products are just getting better and better with each new release. This is super exciting for consumers, but can also be extremely overwhelming when you’re spending your hard-earned money trying out all of these products. Some people may find that a specific product works wonders for them, while another may hate the way that same item performs & feel as if they’ve wasted their money. I am going to give you a list of my ten favorite items of 2018, with a complete breakdown of how and why I have enjoyed them in hopes that you will be able to tell if these products will work for you.

Not every item here was released in 2018, but may have gained popularity or just grabbed my attention this year! These are all products that I have used for a length of time and I truly love them! They are in no true order because they are all loved for different reasons.

1. Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation ($13)

lightillusion

The first few times I applied this foundation, I have to admit that I was not immediately in love. The Light Illusion foundation is very glowy and natural-looking on the skin, and I was accustomed to using more full-coverage matte foundations. After trying this a few more times, I realized just how awesome it is! It looks like you have no product on your face, but leaves you with the most beautiful, healthy, glowing skin. This does not settle into fine lines, but seems to plump up the skin instead. When initially applied, the formula seems a bit tacky, but it does set down quite a bit on its own. Using a damp beauty sponge, I then lightly set my t-zone and under my eyes with translucent powder. This has become my number one choice for every day foundation, and has stayed atop that list for several months now!

2. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser/Moisturizing Lotion ($7 / $10)

I have been using this combo for years! I continuously try different products, but always go back to these for several different reasons. These are both gentle enough to use on my skin every single day, even twice per day when necessary. The cleanser is super efficient with removing all of the makeup from my face without drying my skin out. The moisturizer is perfectly balanced between being light on the skin, but thick enough to truly hydrate. Not to mention, the price point is incredible for such an amazing product. If you have sensitive skin, these two items may be just what you need to try.

3. Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer ($14)

The formula of this bronzer is unreal for the price! It is smooth, blends to perfection, and has just the right balance of warm and cool tones… not to mention it smells like a tropical vacation! I literally use this bronzer every single time that I apply makeup, no matter how bold or natural I am trying to go.

4. Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask ($58)

Back when charcoal peel-off masks were all the rage, I thought I absolutely had to try one to clear out my pores. Instead, after recommendations from a skincare professional, I opted for the Peter Thomas Roth wash-off mask. If your skin is in need of a serious detox, you should just test this one out for yourself. The first time you use it, it may make a few small blemishes appear on your face. Don’t worry! This is just the bad build-up leaving your pores. Once all of the blemishes disappeared, my skin was left completely smooth and blemish-free. If you maintain a regular use of this mask, you will likely not have to deal with the impurities leaving your skin each time because the mask keeps the pores clear.

5. NYX Tinted Brow Mascara ($7)

This is hands-down my number one, favorite, every day brow product. If I am going light with the makeup, I just lightly brush this through my brows to fill in sparse areas and add definition. If I want a bolder brow, I will first fill them in with a pencil, powder, or pomade, then will set them down with this brow mascara. I love the effect this gives my eyebrows, and also love that it comes in several different shades to match many different hair colors.

6. Mario Badescu Facial Spray ($12)

If your skin is in need of a bit of extra hydration, this product may be right up your alley. I apply this each time I wash my face, as well as immediately before makeup application. This helps plump up the skin and diminish the appearance of fine lines, while also helping makeup products blend perfectly onto the face. My favorite is the Aloe, Chamomile, and Lavender scent, but there are several other options to choose from as well!

7. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara ($7)

I discovered this mascara many years ago, but somehow I managed to forget just how great it is. I’m not a huge fan of wearing false lashes, so I like to use a mascara that gives volume and lots of length. This is that mascara! It doesn’t create clumps, it holds a curl, and coats each & every lash effortlessly for the most beautiful effect. This one is definitely an oldie, but a goodie and I am so happy that I rediscovered it this year!

8. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer ($20)

On days when I need moisture, but do not want a thick lotion or cream, I go for this! It is a lightweight gel moisturizer that absorbs into the skin immediately, leaving a beautiful soft finish. This works wonderfully underneath makeup or on its own. My favorite time to wear this is in the summer when I want a more cooling effect, without having to worry about any greasy or oily feeling on the face.

9. JOAH Glow Activator Radiance Primer ($10)

In case you can’t see the trend here, I love hydrating and glowy products! This is one of my newer finds, but I haven’t put it down since I purchased it. This leaves the skin glowy, but not greasy, while also filling in any enlarged pores. It has a slight silicone texture, so if you’re not into that then you may want to skip this one. I personally enjoy a bit of that for the pore-filling effect, but I love this even more for the glow it leaves beneath my makeup.

10. OGX Damage Remedy + Coconut Miracle Oil ($6)

ogxcoconut

Just like I’m sure many of you, I use heat on my hair on a fairly regular basis. I also have used chemicals/bleach in my hair, which is even more damaging. This is one of the only products that I’ve found that is able to help repair my hair without leaving it drenched with heavy product. I apply about a dime-sized amount to the ends of my hair when damp or dry. I am left with softer and shinier hair after each use, with no excess buildup at all!

Out of all of the products that I used in 2018, these were the ten that stuck out most in my mind. I will absolutely continue to use these throughout this next year. If you have similar needs to mine, I hope that these products will work just as well for you as they have for me!

  1. I love, love, love this post! I have been specifically looking for a new moisturizer and I might try the neutrogena one you recommended, what is your opinion on a screw top versus a pump moisturizer? In regards to germs contaminating the formula! Let me know! You have such a great blog and I’ll for sure be following along with your posts!

    1. Thank you!! I definitely like the convenience of the pump bottles. I always have just washed my hands/face when I apply moisturizer, so I don’t worry too much about germs with the jar moisturizer. I personally think it’s all about the specific product and personal preference!

      1. Thanks! I never thought about germs contaminating the moisturizer until it was brought to me attention! I appreciate the time you took to write back! I agree though, I think I would rather the risk of germs for more product!
